In this first episode of this year’s ATH, we begin with a reflective look at homes in Ireland.  How have our buildings, and the homes inside them, evolved?  From the Bangor slate on the roofs of Georgian Dublin to the glass expanses that have defined modern architecture; from the evolution of central heating which revolutionised how we use our homes to the emergence of the now ubiquitous ‘open-plan living’ that characterises so many of our living spaces; Duncan will take the viewer on a journey around Ireland to see how our buildings and homes have changed.

This episode will culminate with the Home Plus Project, the ultimate combination of 21st century design and technology.  This is a zero carbon footprint, kit house that is more cost effective than traditional building methods.  Materials for the house are being sourced wholly in Ireland, we’ll learn about some of these such as the Irish-produced MDF being used in parts of the house that is giving work to large amounts of Irish people at a time when it is sorely needed.  The aesthetic of the house will be contemporary and understated with a stylish, handle-less kitchen and design features such as timber floating shelves.
