Sandymount building story: extension to semi detached house.
In the first episode of About the House, Duncan meets a recently married couple who have just bought a semi detached house in Sandymount, Co. Dublin and are planning to turn it into their dream home. John and Oonagh are investing 150 thousand euro in this project, which will include refurbishing the existing house, adding on an extension and fitting out a new kitchen. John has decided to project manage the build himself however the couple have their work cut out for them as their goal is to move in by Oonagh’s birthday at the beginning of October. Duncan visits the site to see the progress that has been made, however he discovers that things are already falling behind schedule.
Duncan takes a look at what we have to do to save energy and reduce our CO2 emissions in the home. While making our homes more efficient is one solution, Duncan explains how changing our habits can result in huge reductions on our energy bills. He introduces his daughter Tania Stewart, who will be following two families throughout the series as they try to adopt a more energy efficient approach. Tania meets Aodhan and Kirk, two Power of One campaign experts, who give advice on how to make sufficient savings on energy bills in the home.

Built on a site located beside a grade A listed church, a cemetery and a war memorial garden, Alan shows Angie how he managed to achieve a new home that’s unique and stylish yet manages to complement the existing public buildings that surround the site.
