Item 1
Community & Lifestyle

Environmental Impact of Products & Materials
Every thing we buy in the course of our lives, from a drinks container to building material, has a lifecycle that begins long before we buy it, and continues long after it leaves our possession.
As consumers, we can do a lot for the environment simply by making informed choices when it comes to the type of products we buy.
We take a look at some of the environmentally friendly choices available to consumers.

Item 2
Environment & Health
UV Sun

Even in a country with as much cloud cover as Ireland, the risk of skin cancer from the sun is on the increase. This final segment explores the nature of solar UV radiation and the threat posed to human health by the thinning of the ozone layer. We talk to a lady about the life changes that she needed to make when she heard that she had developed malignant melanoma. She tells us about the journey she has gone on and the positive outcome after three years of uncertainty.

Item 3
Heritage
Inland Waterways

Ireland’s inland waterways are a wonderful, interconnected system of rivers, lakes and canals – each one unique, each supporting habitats as diverse as the counties they run through. They are a great source of enjoyment for all who use them for fishing, sailing and walking.
We take a trip on the Royal Canal and spoke to some of the people who have been working to secure the future of Ireland’s canals.

Item 4
The Big Picture
Domestic Wastewater

In towns and cities around Ireland, domestic waste water is carried through the sewers to local authority treatment plants where it can be dealt with safely.
However, in rural areas – remote from any sewer system – the responsibility for treating and disposing of domestic wastewater falls on the householder.
We take a look at some of the problems and solutions that rural householders encounter with septic tanks.
